Why did I start?  The easiest and most truthful answer is that this blog, Paths Unwritten, and Slightly Removed before that, began as a product of my boredom.  So many of my projects seem to.  In the last five years, I really have not had a constant home, shifting locations whenever I get the whim to or for a new work opportunity..

This blog began about midway through that.  I was in the textbook definition of stagnation.  I had ended my second year at the same job.  I was dating a girl long-time for he first time.  I still had no actual home, bouncing between her city and my own, an 8-hour drive, of which I was the only one capable of making.  And then the winter came.

Winter in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan is an experience.  No adjectives, positive or negative, can apply.  It’s simply an experience.

Many things happened out of boredom during that time.  While she was still attending University and working I was doing neither.  Winter and isolation and boredom and time can amount to some interesting results.

So began Slightly Removed.  It was a prelude to what she and I both knew was coming.  From the time we had started 6 months before, she knew that I couldn’t stay in one place too long.  I began writing about my . . . our . . . travels throughout that area.  It could only expand out from there, though.

When I left for the last time, it became the first part of a path I still haven’t retraced.  New places, people and experiences all beckon.  And I am pursuing any of them that I can.
