Its seems like a long time ago now, but back in New York I made a day trip out to what was, at the time, almost a ghost town of Coney Island in Brooklyn.  After taking in the empty beach, the boarded up food stands, the fenced off amusement park and the creepy aquarium, I finally began to loop around the sparse, yet infamous boardwalk.

Past a decades-old roller rink, I finally saw something that counter the entire ambiance of emptiness and abandonment that Coney Island seemed to emanating.  In the cleared remains of an abandoned lot, the neighbourhood had begun to reclaim some life with this garden.

It was very clearly still in the beginning stages and likely recovering from the not-too-far-off tail end of winter, but it still stood out as something interesting and different from anything else there.
