hat-1 This raggedy leather cap is one I was handed down from an Irish traveller in Bangkok that has since worked its way into my normal travel gear.  Apparently having changed hands a couple times before him, as Gavan had no definitive idea where it came from or where it had been.  He just passed it on on the condition that it stay moving around the world.

However, this hat has certainly seen some things.  Distressed as it was when it first came into my possession, it has frayed further and lost the neck strap originally attached.  The braided leather cord around the rim no longer stays in place.  hat-2

And as with that offbeat Irishman before me, the hat doesn’t make it into daily wear too often. While an interesting piece, it is heavy, not too breathable, and often ends with a quite sweaty head.  Still, for an expedition to a Chinese mountain in the winter, it made an excellent companion.
