After jumping ship after the Wanderbird trip, and heading off to Boston, I weeded down what I had to as little as I thought I could comfortably get away with.  And, from now on, this is still my guidepost in packing up for a long backpacking trip.

‘It’s bigger on the inside.’

BLUE MEDIUM STUFF SACK

  • 4 cotton t-shirts (2 black, 1 gray, 1 blue)  Darker colors don’t show stains as quickly or easily, so they can go for longer in between washes and tend to last longer.
  • 1 button up t-shirt

GREEN MEDIUM STUFF SACK

  • 2 button up long-sleeve shirts
  • 1 fleece pullover
  • 1 black thermal hoodie

MESH MEDIUM STUFF SACK

  • 1 gray zip up hoodie
  • 1 down vest

At first sight, it may not seem like this would provide the best warmth in cold temperatures.  However, many comfortably layer together and provide much better warmth than carrying a heavy coat ever would.
